Seed library projects represent opportunities to tend to local biodiversity, grow community and nurture important aspects of our cultural heritage. From the germination of an idea to the careful cultivation of a resource, Seeding Ideas, the seed library at the Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture, has sprouted into the first academically funded seed library in Canada. With a first year membership of 74 members and a distribution of more than 5000 individual seeds into the region, we are constantly finding new ways to enhance our place as content caretakers in support of teaching and learning. The presentation will cover a brief introduction to seed saving, the benefits and importance of seed lending libraries, and the development of the Seed Lending Library at Dalhousie’s Agricultural Campus. We will also present the Seed Library Software developed in conjunction with Dalhousie Libraries ITS and an exchange student from Brazil participating in Science without Borders. The Seed Library software will be released as open-source project later this year. #ThisIsAgriculture
